Facial Atrophy
Due to several medical conditions and side effects of certain drug therapies there can be atrophy of the facial fat.
The range of procedures available for correction of atrophy range from invasive procedures such as Fasciocutaneous Free Flaps to Minor Filling Procedures in the office.
Both offer pros and cons over the other.
For procedures performed in the office the options include a range of Fillers that are approved by the FDA and some in development that are presently used outside of the USA.
Due to the amount of substance needed to affect change to an atrophic area you may need multiple syringes any off the shelf product. A more economical and more moderate change can be achieved with lesser amounts of product.
Fat Grafting
In individuals in which atrophy has effected fat globally on their body autologous fat transfer(fat injections) may not be an option due to lack of donor fat.
If donor fat is available fat grafting is an excellent option.
- Fillers
- Radiance
- Restylane
- Hylaform
The volume of product necessary is directly related to the amount of atrophy present.
